Ardentinny Forest and Beach Walk – Autumn Walks 2017

Ardentinny Forest and Beach Walk – Autumn Walks 2017

An Ardentinny for all

Picnic beside Cowal’s longest sandy beach and explore Ardentinny’s network of interesting trails, including one suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Our guide to Argyll Forest Park will help you explore Ardentinny and other woodlands in this wonderful part of Scotland.

Please note, due to recent felling, the previous route to the Carrick Castle track is currently not usable.  We are looking at the best way of reinstating a permanent route. In the meantime please follow the diversion and obey all safety signage and instructions.

You’ll notice disinfectant mats at the entrance/exit to some of our trails. This helps minimise the spread of tree disease and keeps our forests healthy for the future. Please use them to clean any boots, paws or wheels.

Everything you need

Toilets at the picnic site are open from April to October. Other public toilets are also available in Ardentinny village. The nearest place for food and drink is the Whistlefield on Loch Eck, about 5 miles (8 km) away.

If you want to camp you’ll find all the facilities you need in the camping and caravan parks at Invereck, Cothouse, Kilmun and Sandbank, near Dunoon.

How to get here

From Glasgow take the A82 along the west shore of Loch Lomond and turn left onto the A83 at Tarbet. Follow the A83 until the junction with the A815. Stay on the A815 past the villages of Strachur and Glenbranter and turn left onto a single-track road, signposted Ardentinny. Follow this over the hill for about 5 miles (8 km) until you see signs for the Ardentinny picnic site. The car park is at grid reference NS 190 884.

Alternatively, travel to Gourock and take the ferry to Dunoon. From Dunoon go north on the A885 and continue straight onto the A815. Turn right into Midge Lane / A880 (just after the garage) and follow the coast for about 8 miles (12.8 km) until you see signs for the Ardentinny picnic site.
